about

Despite all the amputations....

This is a nice audio document from an important period in the Magik Markers development. After several european tours the original Quimby, Nolan, Ambrogio lineup went up in flames. It was one London gig.. the last of a long tour. Fraught with onstage technical difficulties due to borrowed gear, the set was doomed from the start. Quimby's amp fried out, she freaked, left the stage, left the building and the band for good.

The duo of Pete and Elisa soldiered on through the gig and decided to keep going with the band as a duo. They hit the road auditioning material that would be on their forthcoming studio record "BOSS".

The duo format brought a new focus to the Markers sound. Pete started making cassette loops and other homemade analog electronic instruments a lynchpin in the bands sound to help make up for the lack of clatter in the Quimbyless Markers. Elisa's lyrics tightened up and along with a few heavy riffs gave a more structural element to the Markers sound. This was the new foundation for the free guitar and drum workouts that had always been the cornerstone of the Markers sound. The new sound was more akin to something you might here on the PSF label than any of the Markers previous work.

This particular gig comes from the Danau Festival in Austria... I think it was 2007. A very cool stop in the middle of a long European duo tour. The Markers were flying blind without proper moniters on a very big stage (picture drum risers and fog machines), but the resulting set is a nice example of a forgotten but pivotal point in the evolution of the Magik Markers.

This show is one big hour long track...
